Thomas N. Taylor

Founder and President

Tom Taylor has been in the academic publishing industry for 30 years. Most recently Tom was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for SAGE (2004-2010). He led the effort to create a textbook sales force selling to North American faculty, a library sales force selling journals and reference products to consortia throughout the world, and the transition of a global marketing department to a sophisticated database organization targeting faculty and librarians with very specific interactive messaging. These initiatives resulted in record increases of revenue and profits.

Before SAGE, Tom was Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Course Technology (1998-2003), a Thomson Learning company, where he significantly expanded and re-engineered its sales organization and restructured its marketing department. Tom was responsible for the sales of Course's products through multiple channels (higher ed, career, k-12) and all markets around the globe.

For the previous 20 years, Tom held sales, editorial, marketing and management positions at Addison-Wesley (Pearson) and Prentice Hall (Pearson) where he distinguished himself with many achievement awards.

Bob Pursell

Vice President of Sales

Bob Pursell is a 20-year veteran in academic publishing. Most recently Bob worked at McGraw-Hill Education, where he was Marketing Director for the Medical Publishing Division, (2012-2014). Bob led the effort to create and implement the marketing and communications plan for ClinicalAccess, a major product launch in the clinical decision support space. Bob and his team also created the 2013 and 2014 marketing plans for 100+ new books per year, an extensive backlist, and 14 digital platform products. In both years the Medical Division exceeded high revenue and profit goals by wide margins.

Prior to McGraw-Hill Education, Bob was Associate Publisher for Advertising, Sales and Marketing for the American Psychiatric Association’s (APA), publishing division. (1999-2012). During his tenure at APA, Bob directed advertising, sales, and marketing programs for a product line of books, journals and digital products. He supervised online marketing including email, SEO and social media, wholesale, retail, international and institutional sales, direct marketing, exhibit, display and classified advertising, and special sales revenue streams. Bob also created and implemented the marketing and sales plan for the 2005 launch and 2011 re-launch of PsychiatryOnline.org, a digital platform product featuring the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, IV-TR (DSM-IV-TR) and the American Journal of Psychiatry (AJP).

Before joining the APA, Bob worked in marketing management positions for Aspen Publishers, BoardSource, and Phillips Publishing International Inc.

Terri L Coats

Sales and Marketing Consultant

Terri Coats has been in the academic publishing industry over twenty years with sales and marketing experience in most domestic markets from K-12 through higher education institutions including career colleges. She also has worked extensively around the globe selling and marketing in Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada and Latin America. Terri has spent the last fifteen years at Cengage Learning (formerly Thomson Learning) in various sales and marketing roles. For the last five years, Terri was executive director of global marketing where she coordinated efforts to support the various international Cengage sales forces in promoting their higher education products.

Richard Williams

Digital Marketing Consultant

Richard Williams, a web design and digital marketing pioneer, has 20 years of experience designing and developing digital marketing campaigns for leading companies like SAGE Publications, Microsite, Warehouse Music, Haas Automation, Activision, and JAFRA Cosmetics. Most recently he has helping national organization like Moose, Legionnaire, NRA, Union Plus and Good Sam Club build web marketing presences.
